Serial Behavior 1 Running head : INTERACTIVE TEST OF SERIAL BEHAVIOR
نویسندگان
چکیده
We describe an interactive, computer-based test inspired by the Trail Making Test (TMT). With this new test, young (mean age=20.4 years) and older subjects (mean age=74.9 years) used natural, pointing responses to order series of items, either numbers, letters, or intermixed letters and numbers. This interactive test, which eliminates several deficiencies of TMT, assesses subjects’ baseline speed for detecting and responding to individual items, captures the time for each response, and automatically segregates erroneous responses from correct ones. An additive factors analysis decomposed test times into functional components, including executive function, which took longer in older subjects. The inter-response times with intermixed numbers and letters showed that subjects did not always switch between the two different ordering-tasks, but instead often recall letter-number pairs as single units. With even modest practice, both young and older subjects sped up their ordering of intermixed numbers and letters, probably reflecting reduced dependence upon executive function.

The health belief model (HBM) posits that messages will achieve optimal behavior change if they successfully target perceived barriers, benefits, self-efficacy, and threat. While the model seems to be an ideal explanatory framework for communication research, theoretical limitations have limited its use in the field. Notably, variable ordering is currently undefined in the HBM. Thus, it is uncl...
متن کاملIntegration and representation in rats' serial pattern learning in the T-maze.
Rats were exposed to three-trial series consisting of reinforced (R) trials and one nonreinforced (N) trial in a fixed order, RRN and RNR (Experiments 1 and 2) or NRR and RRN (Experiment 3), on extended visually distinct runways in a T-maze. When initially presented with the same sequence on each series in a session (separate presentations) with the same runway on all trials within a series (Ex...

The present study offers an integrative account which proposes that dyslexia and its various associated cognitive impairments reflect an underlying deficit in the long-term learning of serial-order information, here operationalized as Hebb repetition learning. In non-dyslexic individuals, improved immediate serial recall is typically observed when one particular sequence of items is repeated ac...
